BPS17-12 is a 12 V, 17 Ah valve-regulated lead-acid battery from the B.B. Battery BPS general purpose series, built with absorbent glass mat (AGM) technology for efficient gas recombination. The B.B. Battery BPS17-12 is a high-quality valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery from the BPS general purpose series. The series is produced in 12 volt monobloc form with capacities from 5 Ah to 230 Ah, covering the power needs of a wide range of applications, and the case is made of tough, opaque, impact-resistant ABS plastic. The cover is firmly joined to the case and the terminal area is carefully sealed to prevent electrolyte leakage. BPS17-12 is supplied with a B1 terminal as standard (for M5 bolts and nuts), while T2 and I1 terminals are offered as optional types so connections can be matched to the installation.
Safety and reliability received close attention in the design. The cover has six filling holes used to add electrolyte during production, after which a pressure relief valve made of non-combustible material is installed; this gives the battery a high level of fire and explosion safety under abnormal conditions. Inside, absorbent glass mat (AGM) technology for efficient gas recombination makes the battery truly maintenance free (no water addition required). The battery also has a no free acid (leak-proof battery) design that meets non-spillable criteria, so it can be installed safely in horizontal or vertical positions (inverted position not allowed), which gives considerable freedom in equipment layout.

Discharge characteristics were tested at 25°C (77°F), with current and power data provided for end voltages from 1.60 V to 1.80 V and discharge times from 5 minutes to 20 hours, which supports precise power system design and backup time calculations. At an end voltage of 1.75 V, for example, the average current over a 30-minute discharge is about 224 amperes.
