The BPL40-12 is a 12 V monobloc valve-regulated lead-acid battery from the BPL series, with a nominal capacity of 40 Ah at the 20-hour rate, 34 Ah at the 5-hour rate, and 20 Ah at the 30-minute rate, and a weight of 14.6 kg. The standard terminal type is B2, while I1 and I2 are available as optional terminal types. The battery uses absorbent glass mat (AGM) technology for efficient gas recombination, and it offers maintenance free (no water addition required) operation together with a low self-discharge rate and a no free acid (leak-proof battery) construction, so the electrolyte stays sealed inside the case during normal service. An explosion-proof filter fitted and a flame arrestor fitted for safety raise the level of protection, and the battery can be used in any orientation (inverted position not allowed), which allows designers to place the unit in the position the enclosure requires.
